Dr. Josh Pi

Josh is an interdisciplinary scientist who is interested in the relationships among humans, society, technology, and nature. As a graduate student, he collaborated with OPOR and communities in Ulithi and Hawaii to understand the socio-ecological impacts of spearfishing after the introduction of spearguns to Ulithi Atoll. Josh graduated with a PhD in Oceanography and Master is Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island in 2025 under the supervision of Dr. Kelton McMahon and Dr. Melva Treviño. Shortly after, he joined the OPOR team as a Program Manager on a collaborative project supporting marine resource management in Rull Municipality, Yap. In 2026, Josh started a postdoctoral research position at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
